I am a Registered Counsellor and a member of BACP currently working in private practice. I qualified as a Social Worker in 1986 and worked in Family and Childcare before moving into the area of Fostering and Adoption. For the last 10 years I worked with Adoption Routes focusing on adoption assessment and placement work and latterly providing a counselling and support service for birth parents when their children were being placed for adoption. This experience has made me realise that many people in our society are carrying hurts and pain and find it difficult to know who to trust or where they can find somewhere safe to share their feelings.
Person Centred counselling is where I have my base but realise that a more integrated approach is often necessary to help clients deal with their issues and use aspects of CBT and Solution Focused counselling.
In 2007 I qualified as a counsellor and have recently moved into private practice. I see a range of clients with work related issues, family problems and have found that relationship issues are often at the heart of the issue. I have some EAP clients and work closely with a local cancer charity as well as taking private clients.
I have over 10 years experience working with adoption issues and have a particular interest in Post Adoption Depression. Society accepts that new mothers often suffer from Post Natal Depression or baby blues but we are now realising that new adoptive mums also can suffer.
